The Race Begins: Who will lift the coveted 2023 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup?

Welcome to my blog, As the biggest cricketing spectacle just kick started in the country. 

There's a lot of chatter around who will lift the coveted trophy? Whether India will be able to repeat the heroics of 2011 at home soil or will England be able to defend their title? We'll only get that answer in the next 35 days.Till then let's have a look at the top contenders to life the cup.

1. The Hosts - India

India being the hosts and two time winners are going into the tournament with huge expectations. Also in the build up to this tournament having not won an ICC trophy since 10 years, Rohit and men have a huge challenge to cross the line this time. They are going into the tournament with a formidable squad that boosts of batters like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Shubman Gill. Its a good mix of experience and young talent but the challenge for them is the big knockouts pressure where India has fell short in the last few years.

Additionally, India has got a potent bowling attack with likes of Bumrah, Shami, Siraj, Kuldeep, Jadeja and Ashwin. So, playing the right combination according to the matchups and conditions will be critical and execution in the decisive moments of the game will eventually decide the fate.

2. Defending Champs - England

England has been the most destructive white ball side in the last few years and have basically revolutionized the modern white ball game after their 2015 CWC debacle under the leadership of Eoin Morgan. Now, the baton is passed onto Jos Buttler to defend the title after having proved his leadership lifting the last T20 WC.

England is going into the tournament with probably the best batting lineup with huge depth having likes of Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, Liam Livingston, Johnny Bairstow and Joe Root.They also have great depth of all rounders who can chip in with the overs as and when required. The challenge will be adapting to the spinning conditions and also in the pace department they'll be missing the services of archer that makes Mark Wood's job even more crucial. 

3. Cricketing Giants - Australia 

The five times champions Australia comes with a huge legacy having won the WC the most number of times, the aussie ruthless aggression era is quite infamous. 

Pat Cummins has a huge challenge ahead captaining Australia in the world cup for the first time. Backed up by a world class pace attack with Starc, Hazlewood and seasoned veterans like Warner, Smith and Maxwell one can never write off the Aussies. However, the spin department is heavily dependent on Adam Zampa that is an area of concern for them.

4.Dark Horses - New Zealand

New Zealand might be the most unluckiest side in recent years having lost the WC on boundary count must be haunting them every day. New Zealand is a side that always punches above its weight making most out of their assets. Not a star studded batting lineup but a highly effective with names like Conway , Kane williamson, Rachin Ravindra , Latham. A lethal pace attack with Boult, Lockie Ferguson , Southee is one to watch out. Overall, they have a well balanced squad for the title charge.

5.The Under Dogs - South Africa

South Africa has failed to claim an ICC World Cup title despite consistently being a contender. From being labelled as chokers this might be the year for them. South Africa's batting appears to be formidable because of the form of seasoned players like Quinton de Kock, Aiden Markram, and David Miller. They have a deadly pace attack with Kagiso Rabada, Coetzee, and Lungi Ngidi. Being a young team it'll come down to how they'll handle their nerves and get customized to the indian condtions.
